Just completed an overniter on the AT from Pen-Mar to Caledonia yesterday. Despite recent heavy weather and many blow-downs, the trail was in excellent shape! Many signs of recent maintainance, including excellent fresh blazing. the trail itself was in good repair, not muddy or wet except on the leeward side of the mountains where an inch or so of residual snow remained. The shelters (deer lick, anteidemn) were in good repair and clean.
The shelters at Tumbling Run were outstanding! The tent sites at Tumbling Run shelters were beautiful and carefully placed and groomed to provide level, soft sites with good drainage along the river. The caretakers had firewood stacked and TP & hand sanitizer in the tidy privy!
