Just ordered the Light Hiker Bedroll from Tree to Trail gear. I'm anticipating this to be an excellent addition to my ever-lighter load!

What's it used for? I'm unclear if it is used in conjunction with a bag or if it is meant to be all in one sleeping pad plus quilt.

It's a top quilt. My z-rest pad insulates underneath, the top quilt takes care of the rest. With the double layer of IX, I expect it to be good down to the mid 30's. Below that, I can use my fleece bag liner.

Right now I'm using the Jacks R Better No sniveler @ 22 oz. The LHBR comes in at 14 oz for the relative same temp range.

What's IX and does this item compress well? :)

Compresses very well, from the pic a friend sent - about the size of a 1L dasani water bottle. I will post pics of this once it arrives. I ordered the bed roll yesterday, and it shipped already so I'll have it by Friday at the latest.

For more info on IX (Insultex) see here: http://insultex.com/index2.html

I have an IX under quilt for my hammock. Very warm, very light, packs very small. Right now http://stores.tttrailgear.com/-strse-Insulation/Categories.bok is where I've done most of my chatting/purchasing about this material.

Here's a testimonial by someone else on the IX under quilt, just to give a little more idea from another IX user on this stuff:
