Planning to start a SOBO thru-hike at the beginning of July with my husband and have been starting to dehydrate meals. My husband and I recently tried corn spaghetti and liked it. Based on things we have heard/read about it providing lots of energy, we wanted to include it in our maildrop meals. I am planning to cook the pasta and then dehydrate it, so it will cook quickly on the trail.

Unfortunately, the price of the corn spaghetti at our local health food store is a bit steep ($3.99 for a 8 oz package). I talked with the store about a "bulk buy" discount and it looks like I can get it for about $2.60 for an 8 oz package in bulk.

I was wondering if anyone had a source for corn spaghetti that was a bit cheaper.

Thanks for your help!

I've sometimes found corn pasta shells at Ocean State Job Lot, cheap. Sometimes stuff there is very good and sometimes a little old.

A great place I saw to pick up corn pasta for free was in hiker boxes near the start of the PCT in '04. Ray Jardine, one of the "gurus" of the PCT, recommended it and lots of hikers started with it, but quickly tired of it.

Sorry, not a constructive post, just a "heads up" based on what I've seen.

Thanks for the responses!

We just found another source while doing more research:

Seems too good to be true. Has anyone tried this brand?

Lots of corn pasta in the hiker boxes at the start of the PCT in 2008, too. Nobody likes it. I'm surprised that you do!

It did seem to be too good to be true, so I checked the shipping cost. $15 for the 5 lbs. of pasta. If you _really_ like it though, the shipping for a case of 12 (60 lbs?!) was a little over $17.

Note: this was shipping to Knoxville.

Corn pasta is one of those things...back in the late 90's early 2000's my Dad was put on a gluten free diet before it was a big thing. I cooked a LOT of corn pasta and a blend of Quinoa/Corn pasta. At first it isn't bad but wow...after awhile I couldn't stand it - and I don't think I am the only one who would say that either!
