Here's a question for you Rainbow owners...

When you're inside the tent and zip the vestibule there's a triangular piece of material with a velcro tab on it that just hangs there.

I studied it for a while last night and decided it has no redeeming value and just gets in the way so I got out my knife to cut it off - then figured I might be cutting off a really cool thing that I just didn't figure out.

So, I thought I'd ask before I operated... Anyone know what it's for?

That is a piece of spare material , just in case...

some use it to get the rain curtain set up.

That was my contribution to the Rainbow...
Another possible set up not included in the instructions is the use of trekking poles under the cross strut to give it added lateral stability (for wind and snow) .
If you look under the vents you will see a grommet. Insert the pole tip there and guyout.
BTW, there are two guyout points on the main pole too.

Ah, I would have never figured that the porch thing....

I wonder if an adhesive velcro dot would stick to silnylon? If it will, I'll put it on the vestibule and just velcro it out of the way.

I really like this tent - it's very spacious for a tall guy like me. I've spent about a week in it now and the two things I like most about it is that I've got room to sit up and there's enough room for me to organize my stuff so I don't feel like I'm laying in a pile of clutter (that drives me nuts).

I've decided this is the tent I'm taking when I hike the Benton MacKaye Trail next month.

you should have two bits of elastic to hold the rain curtain in.
The trick to keep it tidy and done up is (like with doors) to start rolling from the apex of the triangle, roll tight and then when you tie it up doing a granny knot put the working end into the loop twice ,

Gee, I just had my Rainbow set up in the yard yesterday.
I've used my tent numerous times and I don't think I've ever noticed that piece.
Do they all have it?

Do they all have it?

no, mine (2005) doesn't because Henry sold me one before I thought of the idea...
It was implemented from 2008 onwards.

I definitely have only one elastic string.

That was actually part of the puzzlement - I also couldn't figure out why the string is dangling there with nothing to tie or attach it to.

I may just slice it off.. I've never wished I had a porch on my tent. :)

Generally, I hike in the rain anyway.
