I've been browsing the trailjournals.com journals...some of them are cool, many of them very similar, some damn boring. Is there somewhere that rates each journal based on reader popularity...number of reads...etc?? Would people here be willing to recommend any journals they found particularly interesting? I'm not looking to find anything in particular (hot young chicks, goofy stoners, clumsy tall people, slow fat people...) just want to read a well written, captivating account of thru-hikes.

Thanks all.

The place to find A.T. Journals is at www.atmuseum.org (http://www.atmuseum.org) on the Journal project pages. Most have been selected after searching the web for good journals, while others have been submitted by individuals for submission. Anyone wanting to have their journals linked to from this site are welcome to contact [email protected] or if you know of a great journal that is not currently posted send an email as well.
Really looking for some older journal submissions. Enjoy.

I enjoyed Don't Mind & Don't Matter's last year, hiked with them for awhile, as well as Milo (Freewheelin' Milo) - wish he had gone further, his were always entertaining too!

"Then the Hail Came (http://www.skwc.com/exile/Hail-nf.html)" by George Steffanos and "Through-Hiking Vikings (http://www.tannercritz.com/wildbeasts/Default.htm)" by Tanner Critz More like online books, but definitely worth reading.

When you create an on-line journal at Trailjournals.com you set up a "hit meter". Everytime someone accesses your journal it increments. Generally speaking, the good ones have the highest number of hits.

Well here's a plug for my journals. While they may not be the best, I have tried something a little different. If you are interested in Flora & Fauna, I have placed links to the All Taxa Biodiversity Inventory from my journal. When I talk about encountering a particular bird species, I have created a link to a web page that tells you all about that particular species (distribution, nesting, behavior, etc..). I have also integrated some sound files into the page. You'll need to have your pop-up blocker turned off as the links will open in a new browser window.

I welcome any feedback on this from any & all. I hope to have all of my 2000 AT journal up on trailjournals in the next 45-60 days. Photos will follow. Its a slow process.

Here are a couple of sample pages to check out;

Enjoy!

I like it, Little Bear! :) With it being that easy and convenient, I might actually get to learning about some of the nature we come across on the trail for this year! Reading about it in the books is one thing, but a nice color picture and sounds at a mouse's click really pulls it all together!

Look forward to reading your whole journal when you get it up! (alot of work, isn't it? even for those of us not adding all the extra work for ourselves hehe!)

I use Yahoo's pop-up blocker and didn't have to turn it off.

i know my journal is not well written and will prolly bore you........hell its not even about hiking! but it does have some beautiful photos i took... of my unsupported solo canoe journey down the Missouri & Mississippi rivers from Three Forks Montana to the French Quarters in New Orleans this past summer

look under 2004 - Missouri River section, i'm still uploading a page and photo every other day

Janliteshoe has a beautiful writing style IMHO

I liked Big Red's from several years back. Also Too Tall from several years back. Both had a lot to do with personal struggle. There were others too, but I can't recall the names.
