View Full Version : Need tent/tarp buying help
I am looking for the lightest, most compact tent possible. I was using a Eureka Backcountry. It was exactly what I wanted in the way of comfort and size, but I switched packs and don't have room for it. The Tarptent Contrail is ideal, but my thru starts Sunday and they are out of stock. The only requirements I have is bug protection and compactness. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Tiger - were you keeping your tent on the inside or outside of your pack?
I did carry it outside, but I'll have to carry the new one on the inside.

OK, well I trust your judgement on that. I don't know what to suggest, but maybe a temporary rigging of somesort until the Tarptent people can get a Contrail out to you? Depending on when they're back in stock, it might not be that long of a wait in the big scheme of things.
Curious as to what you chose as a new pack???
See you out there...
ps: are you doing the approach?
Hiken2011, I guess you got the Lightheart? How fast is the shipping, and are they already seam sealed?
I got a Dueter 50 Futura Zero I borrowed from my hiking buddy. I was using a Granite Gear Vapor Trail until it decided to fall apart on my thru of the Foothills last week. I'm doing the approach trail. How about you?

Standard LightHeart Tents ship the same or next business day. Custom tents can take a few days to get out. We can seam seal a tent if you want (for a fee) and shipping is always free. Sometimes, we even ship tents 10 minutes after we get the order.

I have used the Contrail and the Cloudburst on the AT. Contrail worked great-light ... You might try the Moment, good reports and just a little heavier. Henry is the Best!!!!
Best tent of the 4 I own for the AT
