Picked some up recently to experiment with, Kasha brand. Seems pretty cheap and versatile although slightly bland, does anybody eat this stuff on the trail and if so what do you do to...... unblandify it?

There's an interesting PCT trailjournal by Buckwheat (he ate buckwheat groats most dinners).http://rickdelong.com/pct/home.shtml
Look for Russian or Eastern European recipes for buckwheat groats. Also, you can use it as breakfast cereal in place of oats or for dinners in place of rice.

Buckwheat pancakes are really good, but I don't think I'd want to fuss with pancakes on the trail.

Somewhat off topic, but I'd love to find some buckwheat honey to make mead. About 12 pounds should do....

There's a vendor at the Maryland Renaissance Fair that sells it. I imagine most Ren Fairs might sell it.

I can just see myself trying to convince my wife we should drive to Maryland to buy honey! :) On the other hand, in her current mood with the new Governor and Legislation (she's a state employee), she just might take me up on it.

Sadly, no Renaissance fairs around this area. A little progressive for northwest Florida. I'd be all over that.

Great idea, though. Never know what the future stores, nor when little things like this can come in handy.

Don't know if the all have the honey, but there's about a dozen in Florida.

Everyone should go to one once, they "almost" make thru-hikers look normal.

I'd swear I had buckwheat pancakes along Skyline drive in the park restaurants. Even had molasses.
