I'm looking to upgrade my 15 year old Go-Lite synthetic.

I'll be using it in a hammock with a ccf pad. My ideal bag would be down, with a center zipper, 20 degree rating, long enough for me at 6'2", large enough up top so I don't feel too tight (I am fairly broad shouldered) - maybe a modified mummy since I rock and roll around a good bit, under 300 bucks.

Is this doable? What bag?

Thanks!

Seems to me that the ideal thing for you might be one of various quilts at jacksrbetter.com (http://www.jacksrbetter.com); watch for sales, or perhaps even without a sale you might find something that works for you in the $300 price range.

Even if you "go to ground" on occasion, a quilt is a good option to keep in mind, and if you're mostly in a hammock, seems ideal (who wants to zip up a bag inside a hammock!).

Wouldn't that also require a top quilt too. Besides the cost if both under and top quilts, I worry I'd be cold without being zipped in. Seems likely I'd end up out from under the tq with tossing about. ?

And then cut it down to a quilt. Or not. Still gotta have insulation underneath in a hammock.

I will be using a ccf pad.

Seems like most people want to steer you to the quilts. I just bought a Western Mountaineering Caribou MF 35 degree new for $295.00.
I know it is not rated to 20 degree but with a liner and ccf pad(as I to will be using) The bag should get me down to 25 degree. 1lb 7oz.
65/56/39 are measurements. I would rather sleep in a bag than the quilts. JMO.

Why not go for another GoLite? They're having that ridiculous sale still and their bags are center zip. Not sure about width though.

I always find it odd that people who sleep under a blanket for the majority of their life want to be enclosed in a sleeping bag while hiking, and won't try a quilt.

The difference is my bed is in a climate controlled room without wind or 30 degree temps. It just seems like the topquilt would move enough to allow drafts. I'm plenty open minded about which way to go but I want to spend once not twice.
