HI all, my name is Vincent, trail name TUK and I did a thru-hike in 2000, and just put together a short video about my hike for anyone that wants to watch it. It's a large Quicktime, 40 megs. So please let it load. Maybe some of you from 2000 will see some faces you remember.

I attached some screen shots.

enjoy

Thanks for the download. All I get is the sound track and an error message 8992. I never have any luck with Quicktime files though!

Thanks for sharing it. Did you use imovie? And what did you do to get the 3-D effect? did you cut the front parts out and then enlarge? Or did you overlay the same image at different scales and then erase from the foreground? It was a really cool effect.

If anyone one is having problems viewing it you need the latest Quicktime, blame the internet.

The film was done in After Effects, and the 3d effect is done by separating layers and arranging them in 3d space with a camera move, could also be done with scaling the layers at different speeds.

I stared my hike with the idea of making a documentary but after 500 miles, the weight of the camera, tripod, kit and batteries was to much, so I sent it all home and enjoyed my trip. So now 5 years after I gathered what I had and put it together.

I am glad people enjoyed it.

After playing with Quicktime I was able to view the film. Excellent job! Very nice editing. I'd like to know more about the equipment you carried with you and how you handled batteries etc.

For any else having problems with QT, open up your QT program and go to Edit/Preferences/QuickTime Preferences. Uncheck all of the options and then close the window. Shutdown QT and restart. You should then be able to see the film.

Youngblood, that rings a bell? I am sure we crossed paths. I hiked alot with Superman and his dog Winter, and Nemo. I was north bound and finished in Oct, Anyway.

Papa John, the camera kit and all was a extre 15 pounds that I had in another backpack on my chest, the pain!!!! I had a midsized digital camera and 2 extra heavy long life batteries, I had to rechared them at any stop even a post office for 2 hours. They were to heazy and to big, not like what they have today. If I did it again I would buy the smallest Sony handy cam and nothing else, no tripod no extra batteries nothing, just shoot and recharge when I can.

I was out there about the same time as I hiked with Superman and Winter right after Dick's Creek Gap. I wonder if we crossed paths at some point?

Papa John maybe we did, superman and me were about the same speed and place all the way. If you look at the video he is in it sitting on a rock with 3 other hikers behind him, it's about half way into the video.

Just the past summer I hiked Baldpate in Maine with some friends and I had such vivid flash backs that I had to dig up all my old footage and photos and do something. The video was a way of bringing my trip full circle. And whats makes me the most happy is hearing that some people like it and passes them that AT feeling. 5 years after and I have done more trips since then, it is still the best thing I have ever done in my life.

Thanks all.

Hi TUK,
I enjoyed hiking with you on the AT. While other hikers were cutting off the handles of their tooth brushes you were carrying all that equipment. What a load off your back when you sent that stuff home. Winter and I will be hiking the COHOS trail (sobo?) this spring. Pat from Maine has to work but she wants to meet up on the lower part. Life is good.

Wow, that was great! Ya know, how lucky are we in this time - even just ten years ago it was a rare occasion for someone to truly lug around all the equipment and carry the weight necesasry to film an AT adventure. It was just mostly "Professionals"... nowadays we can get all ranges of films, and tiny camcorders are getting more and more afordable!

Agreed, you have an eye for this! And that 3D effect is SO cool! I wanna figure out how that is done lol!!!

Thanks for sharing with us! :)

When this thread went up, three years ago, I really enjoyed the video clip.

I had forgotten the thread name, and the name of the OP. Yet with a little digging, I was able to find it again today. So, I'm bumping it up, for others to discover.

Great video and and great music.

Did my first serious section that year and probably read some of your register entries. I thought that shot of the Twin Towers was priceless and really enjoyed the entire thing, thank you.
