REI dividends come out tonight or tomorrow online. Due to the complicated nature in which they are calculated from my credit card, I really don't know what mine will be. Won't be more than $100, but hey - $100 to REI!

:banana:banana:banana

I guess this will be the unofficial "what I got with my dividend" thread. I am in the market for a new rain shell. My lower quality coated nylon shell is no longer waterproof.

Yeah hoping mine will be a decent size, but we will see.

Just cause ya get what ya pay for tends to be pretty accurate, I'd be wary of something providing the seeping bag plus that extra stuff for 70 considering I spent 170 for an not top of the line bag with none of those extras.

Pops my fault, thought that was a bag included system.

That seems like a good idea if your not using a tent, otherwise it's just one more thing to carry and redundant.

I think it's just the bug bivy for the price - not the sleeping bag. The bag you already own just slides inside the bug bivy. So the price is about right if the mesh is decent quality.

I love my REI dividend each year! March is a great month, weather gets much better, hiking after the long winter, March Madness and of course, the REI dividend

Can you use your dividend in store or only online?

Wow. I just found my dividend and I won't get too specific here, but let's just say if I spend it all, my order will qualify for free shipping :)

Now the question is, SHOULD I spend it all, or wait until July and request a check? It would be pretty helpful on my thru hike (starting in 3 days).

Use it to replace whatever breaks or wears out.

I do well. I spend about $ 60,000 a year on the card.

I'll be buying those Montbell fill camp pants I wanted and a new pair of shoes or boots.

Me, too. We run everything through the card (including the kid's tuition.) I want a new Montbell Alpine Light Parka. But I just searched the REI site for "Montbell" and didn't get any results. Oh well.

A couple of years ago we got my wife a big winter sleeping bag at a local outfitter, and just waited until July to get a check from REI to offset.

48 bucks burning a hole in my pocket. Next week they are having a 20% off of one item sale, so your dividend will go a little farther if you hold off a few days. Too bad you don't get dividends for the exchanges though. Just kidding. Now if only REI had some ultra light gear :( They do have my Leki "ultra lite" poles though, and the purtiest help this side of the Colorado River :)

Is there a cap on the amount - do you get a $6000 dividend? That would be pretty sweet...

I've already got 600,000+ Hilton Honors points - maybe I need to switch my corporate card to an REI one for a few years. :)

its a 1% card on all purchases and 5% on all REI purchases.

60,000 points = $600

but actually given i do make REI purchases throughout the year, plus the annual dividend as a member we are going to be sitting on over $800 to spend this year. i dont have any needs at this point, i may just bank them.

i have several cards, i use a Fidelity card for my company mostly, as it gives a 2% credit off the top, which is great.

i used to have an NFL card, and got tickets to every game for many years, but they got greedy and moved my seats from the 50 yard line to the corner, and then parking issues, and my disenchantment with the game after Tom Brady married a Supermodel and started behaving in a metrosexual way, i decided to move on to Fidelity.

If you spent the entire $60,000 at REI on non-sale items, then, yes, you'd get back $6000 as a dividend.

Sadly, even a total gearhead like me can't spend that much at REI. Everything else gets 1% back, as ttb noted, so running everything through the REI card, including gasoline, travel, tuition, etc., still brings in a pretty hefty dividend.

I have the card as well, it really starts to add up after a year of charging most of my consumer products through the card. Big issue is not having a balance, because it is at 13%, so if someone does get the card, be careful with it, that is a very high interest rate, but again, great card to have, especially during March!

there isn't much I need from REI anymore. I can find hiking clothes at Goodwill a lot cheaper. I endup walking around trying to find something to buy. Maybe with my 20% off coupon and dividend I can pickup an extra paddle for my kayak

I might finally pick up a Whisperlite Intl. It's more for home use than on the trail. Too heavy to take with me hiking. Can't really think of much else I need. If they carried the Kestrel 4000 I'd probably buy that but I can't justify the cost of the Bluetooth model. :(

My hat arrived today. I have to say that im extremely happy with it. Very light weight, can be folded and put into pack, and the neck sun shield is very easy to fold up and store away within a picket in the brim.

Before you buy from REI:

If anything goes wrong with their products, REI will claim zero responsibility and not even give you a refund (claiming that they're only the seller, not the manufacturer and thereby dismissing any liability).

The case involved Monika Johnson, who (now deceased) purchased a REI/Novara branded carbon fiber front fork that failed catastrophically, resulting in significant personal injury, and permanent disability. REI issued a recall of the questionable units (using Monika Johnson's photograph and never accrediting photo rights of compensation for such). Despite the recall, no liability was ever assumed, nor apology offered. She suffered damages which medical insurance would not cover, e.g., deductible, lost wages, loss associated with residual brain injury, dental and facial reconstructive surgery. ALL these costs were born by Monika Johnson individually. No disability was paid her.

This is absolutely disgusting. REI is showing itself to be a corporation that doesn't care about the individual. If the same thing happened to REI's CEO or one of her family members, I'm pretty sure there wouldn't have been any appeals.

I just can't get over the irony, that REI-- the company that preaches 100% satisfaction guaranteed-- left Monika high and dry. REI is all about branding to its members, creating that strong sense of value, community and reliability in their products. But when push comes to shove, when a member is seriously hurt through no fault of her own, this is their response. Shameful.

I've been an REI member for over 40 years.

Until this is resolved in a positive outcome, I will be proactively steering all business, mine and that of my friends, relatives, coworkers, and more to other more conscionable retailers.
