Hi my buddy gone to pick up where he left off a few years back at Marion Va
he ask me if he should bring some light weight long underwear and his 200
weight fleece jack. I think the fleece might be over kill not to sure about the underwear.
What to you guys think

It depends on what else he has to keep warm. But, in the month of May most people have switched from heavy, cold weather clothing to lighter stuff. My advice wait and mail that to him when he gets to New Hampshire.

I was in that area around May during my through hike last year. I had my long underwear with me and do not recall using it. He could probably do without the long underwear but I always kept a fleece jacket of some type with me for the chilly nights during my entire hike.

I concur with ALWAYS carrying a fleece to go with a wind proof rain jacket. Wet crossings, rain, accident, etc. may make it necessary in a hurry.
