I was thinking 2.5, 3 weeks. Is this correct?

That's a hard question for others to answer for you. It's about 288 miles. 17 miles per day would put you about 2.5 weeks. We did the BMT-AT loop and contrasted the differences between the 2 trails that might help you determine your projected pace: http://www.trailjournals.com/entry.cfm?id=317704. I would think that whatever "AT hiking pace" you can do on the AT in GA/NC, you can do on the BMT.

Here's the BMTA site that shows some completion times:

Also note that unlike the AT this trail is not designed to hiked in bad weather. If you go in a rainy spring, you might have to wait a day or two to get across a ford (or take an extra day or so to hike around it). If you hike in winter, the trail will be almost impossible to find if it snows significantly. Resupplies may be more difficult if you go when some of the seasonal places are closed, thus requiring longer hikes to re-supply.

I would say it depends on you. I would plan around 3 weeks for the hike. 2.5 for me would be too fast to try to do it and have a good time, but I think Mags did it in winter about that speed - and that was not the best weather either.
