Starting my NOBO hike May 15th (due to a few reasons) and I need some shorts!!

I've been looking at the Men's Harper Trail Short (http://www.columbia.com/Men’s-Harper-Trail™-Short/TM4303,default,pd.html) or the Ex-Officio Men's Nio Amphi Short (http://www.exofficio.com/product_details.aspx?item_cd=1030-1313&key=6974edde-42f2-465c-809a-390764f3638b).

Any suggestions on other brands? What about weights? Thanks!

My cheap @ss speedo swim trunks with the junk hammock cut out have lasted me over 3k miles. I think I got them for $10 and they weigh about 4 oz. No need for fancy ones if you ask me.

Go to Wal-mart and get a pair of shorts and start hiking.

Just received the Mountain Hardwear Canyon Short (7" inseam) and I love them. They are (in my opinion) the perfect hiking short. Shorter inseam (they do offer a 9" as well), mesh drain pockets, back wallet zipper pocket and two large side pockets.

The material is essential nylon but is listed as their 'Canyon Cloth'

I got mine for $12 + 7 shipping off of gear trade.

 You can't say Wal Mart around here! There have been entire threads devoted to dissing not only Wal Mart, but dissing those hikers who would stoop so low as to darken the doorstep of that evil, mom and pop business killing box store!

Although I will admit....there's not much there, gear-wise, that I would buy. I went the Wally World route when my boy first joined Scouts and it wasn't long before I realized that we had a closet full of garbage.

All three of my Starter brand (Walmart) shirts are doing great after years of use. I also have a pair of lightweight (unlined) nylon pants (Walmart) as well that are over 7 years old. :)

I had a pair of shorts and a pair of zip off. I burn very easily so on the sunny days in the beginning of my hike I would wear the long legs for a while - then zip them off for a few hours until I started to build up a little tan.
Starting in early March there was no leaf cover.
