Ok my small pack wound up biteing the dust today due to new sleeping bag not fitting in it. Bought a marmot helium and no matter what I try it wont fit in my atmos 35. I have a aether 60 that weights 5.2 lbs (has argon strap and harness). But hunting a light weight pack made by osprey to replace my small pack. Stuff I normally carry 3 litre water blatter, ridgerest 3/4 (want to replace this ith a proplus), msr hubba. 1 change clothes, and food for 1-2 nights. also lokking to add a stove (Pocket rocket or jet boil) I mainly do small section hikes on pinhoti and appalachian

If you want to stick with Osprey, how about the Exos 58?

If you are willing to try another brand, I would suggest the ULA Circuit or the Catalyst.

+1 on the ULA packs. Do a search on them on WB and you'll find that folks who have them, love them. They are sold at Mountain Crossing (Neels Gap) or you can also order directly from the guy who makes them.

Can't go wrong with ULA. Another good one is Gossamer Gear.

I was thought about ULA but REI doesn't carry them. and kinda afraid of mail ordering bags took me awhile to 1 and rei return garentee is unreal. I did not know mountain crossing had them ill ride up there and check those out. only reason I was partial to osprey was the atmos's suspension was great on my back

I really like the Granite Gear packs, they just updated them. I have the Nimbus Ozone. Not UL by any means, but lightweight and the suspension is great, I had the golite pinnacle, but for me the GG pack is more comfortable with my load 14# base weight.

I have and use both the Exos 58 and a Golite Pinnacle. I have 3 other packs but these are the two I use most. The Exos is the most comfortable with more features. The hip belt bothers some people.
The Pinnacle I use when I want to get the weight down since it is nearly a pound lighter.

I have a Golite Dawn (discontinued bucket-type frameless pack - 14 oz. 2800 cu.in.) and a Granite Gear Virga (a bit larger and a tad over a pound). I've carried over 30 lbs. in both without discomfort on multiday trips (avg. 12 miles per day). If you go light enough (under 25# is best - less is better) you won't need a frame in your pack and can save a couple of pounds on your pack alone.

I used a Go-Lite Womens Pinnacle last year on my 6-mo thru carrying 21-27 lbs and it worked like a champ.

Thanks for the advice never thought about trying to go ultra light on hiking but seems interesting. as far as packs mentioned:

Exo- how do the straps hold up that was a stiking point on that pack they seemed thin and some people say they slip least on the hip belt. could that be they over loaded it?

Ula ciricuit- I think thats what its called. does it have some form of suspension or is it more like a bag. I see its 1 of the lightest packs how does it hold up.

All of the ULAs except the CDT have some kind of frame.

The Circuit has a very good suspension. The Ohm is smaller with a less rigid suspension.

There is a growing list of stores that have ULA - look on their website for retailers.

I have 2 Osprey packs and I love them! But I am looking for something lighter as I am downsizing my gear. A ULA Circuit is what I have my eye on right now, and I really want to try one out. But Osprey makes a new light pack. Look at the Hornet 46. It is almost 25% larger than your old Atmos 35, but weighs in at 1 lb 8 oz. Available at REI.

Give it a spin, and tell us what you think. Could be good for a 2 nighter...

I have two packs also an Osprey Ariel 65 and a ULA Circuit. I thought I truly loved the Osprey until I tried the ULA Circuit. If you want light and durable I would go with ULA they are made in the US and customer service is personal and quick. Good Luck on your search.
