The South Florida Water Management District reported Saturday that it has removed six pythons in the past week from territories previously thought to be uninvaded, including areas deep in the Everglades and north of Alligator Alley.

That's what they said about Iguana meat, "the Cubans will eat it". Didn't happen LOL. Now the old ladies in Boca are bitching they are eating thier hibiscus flowers.

I remember the first time that I went to Fairchild gardens on a Miami trip. I was utterly floored by the size of the lizards out on the property. More like medium sized gators than iguanas.

I watched a program, I think on National Geographic, that said Pythons could be expected to survive throughout most of the southeast.

Was thinking about doing my part to help control them. Go down there, take out about 20 or so to freeze/eat and then catch 1 or 2 to keep as pets.

Heard they are good eating and easy to clean.

Perhaps, but does the meat dehydrate well? I have had rattlesnake; it is very lean and tastes like chicken (when BBQd).

For myself, I've never found that any snake or gator really dehydrates well. Gets tough. Maybe if you like jerky.

This time the Gator won.

As far as invasive species go though, the environment doesn't get such a bad deal with the Pythons. True it scares some city folk in Miami, but they are serving a purpose in replacing the lost niche of the Florida Panther.

You will be hard pressed to find a Florida naturalist to agree with that belief.
Any non native invasive species added to the hundreds already in Florida are a danger to the native habitat or what's left of it.

X2..

They might even help take care of some of the fugitives out there. Guessing they are to chicken poop to hide there any more..... cause of those big scary snakes .

I is my opinion that all owners of snakes who keep them as pets must keep them leashed while hiking:)

Which Pythons have invaded Florida? John Cleese? Terry Gilliam? Eric Idle?

Are Floridians in danger of being stomped by a giant cartoon foot?

I hate natural balances; Florida's a better place with all the invasives.
