View Full Version : Leaving a car at the Kroger in Dalevile, VA

Does anyone have any experience with leaving a car at the Kroger in Daleville, VA. We will be shuttled to Pearisburg and that is about 6 or 7 day hike back for us. Or is it wiser to use the outfitter in Daleville(if it is still open?). Any info appreciated!:)

A guy who shuttled me from Daleville told me the dry cleaners will let you park at his place. It is literally steps from where the trail comes out on Roanoke Road. If you look at the link below you can actually see the double blazed sign on the righthand side of the page. Dry cleaners is on left before BP station.

I work at a Kroger in Huntsville, Al and from what I know about my store i wouldn't worry if they are open 24 hours and you park in employee areas that is well lit. And I guess it depends on the area and what kind of car you have because it is a public area. And i believe I would run it by a store manager as well.
I've parked there for several days twice with no problem.
After Fontana Dam Visitor's Center I think this is the safest place I've felt leaving my truck.
The police cruise the parking lot frequently and it's well lit.
(The outfitter shuttled me and picked me up in the Kroger Parking lot both times.... I parked between the Krogers and Outdoor Trails right under a light.)
twilight no problemo... The deputy's patrol there and go into the outfitter outdoor trails and ask to keep an eye on your car as well..There Hiker friendly..They will hook you up....
Twilight here's outdoor trails number and ask about A shuttle service 540-992-5850...
i never have issues with kroger its well lit and the cops hangout there at night so its safe to leave it.... and i never ever had a problem leaveing my car at valley cleaners..

we just asked at the outfitter there and parked, no issue
I parked at the hotel in Daleville and stayed there for a night at the end, no problem. Stayed at the Super 8 across the street last Thursday night after my section hike from Catawba to Bland, much nicer spot!
Ask at the Howard Johnson"s Express Inn. They have a section of their parking lot where hiker often leave their cars. It is well protected and next to other cars of motel guests. I left mine there for a week. No problem. It is the same distance from the trail as Krogers if you walk in the other direction (to the right if you are headed north).
