I've been on the "search" and googling around today. Can anyone locate this info for me? Where is the first crossing you found going NOBO?

I'm guessing that this journal entry of ours was our first fording opportunity under normal conditions:

Can't tell exactly which mile it was at, but the journal entry gives you a rough idea.

I think the first major crossing NOBO is the French Broad, at Hot Springs, NC. Although I do recall stepping over the little stream that becomes the Hiawassee River a few miles from Unicoi Gap, just outside Helen Georgia.

Stover Creek in GA first stream crossing NOBO.

The only ones you have to remotely worry about is Maine. Even that in the fall going NOBO is no big deal.

Do you want to know river crossings or water that you have to ford?

Thanks for helping. Unfortunately I won't make it all the way to Maine this year. Early on in my planning I convinced myself that 3mos was all I wanted to do but today I have a serious case of thru-hiker envy. Good luck and good health to the class of 2011 :)

Most of everything in the south should have foot bridges or be simple rock hops.

A few days of good rain can turn creeks into steams, and streams into rivers. You won't know til you get there. Enjoy the adventure.

LOL because I remember my first trip up the Approach Trail. I was very badly dressed (blue jeans and cotton T) and it poured all day. I had thought I could go up and back easily....I still thank God for the church group on top of Springer that shared all they had and I was able to walk back down cold and humbled the next day.
