I know that the Instaflator has been discussed by a few here, so I thought I would add to the discussion. I got one of these a couple of months ago and have used it a few times, and I finally got around to doing a little video of it and posted it to my blog.

Overall, I like the Instaflator, but I think that I will like it more when the temps are below freezing simply because it will keep more moisture out of the pads. But I really don't mind taking the extra minute or so to blow up my NeoAir so I probably won't tote it during the summer, unless I'm just feeling lazy... http://www.backpacker.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

I have also found that the Thermarest valves are the only ones that fit it, at least of the pads I have. The ones I have that it does not work with are the REI Lite Core pad and the Exped Synmat 7. Of course the Synmat has the built in pump so the Instaflator isn't needed for it, but both of these pads have a larger valve and the plastic adapter on the Instaflator is too small.

Anyway, if you want to check it out, like I said I have a video of it over on my blog.

Cascade Designs is going to sell a valve that allows you to make your own instaflator.

If I got enough wind to hike for the day, I have enough wind to blow up my Neo.

I could see this as handy if I were borrowing a pad from someone with hepatitis........

leaftye,

I did not know that. Thanks. After messing with this one, it really doesn't seem like it would be hard to make one. I was thinking about even a stuff sack that doubled as one, but unless it was a bigger stuff sack, it would still take as long, or longer than blowing it up.

ChinMusic,

I agree, and that is why I don't plan on carrying it during the warmer months. But for the colder months it is nice just to keep moisture down inside my pad.

Yeah, I'm thinking about adding it to a stuff sack, even if that stuff sack is just an oven bag. But neither are really required. A hole in a bag with a rubber band should work, and it'd weigh less.

bigagnes makes one called the pumphouse.

I use this as a pump and a stuff sack.

For about $12, it's a good thing to have.
