Are there any plans for a shelter in NY between Fingerboard and Wildcat? That's a grueling 14 miles.

There used to be one at Island pond. It was frequntly abused (near the road) an was torn down. A person could wander around to the south side of the pond and find a lovely stealth site.

First time I've seen NY and grueling mentioned together.

It's a rough section... Agony Grind and all ;)

I just stealth at Island Pond. No one bothered me.

Yeah, the option of stealthing over there, as many do, was tempting but I carried on to the shelter. Next time.....

Meh... I just use my tent. Plenty of awesome tenting areas about there, including Island Pond area.

You missed out... great swimming at Island Pond in June. Also great for sun bathing on the rocks. Had a blast there!

The first part NOBO of NY is a surprise for many with its nice assortment of rocks boulders and even a ladder, etc. I recall how frustrated I was. SOBO though, whoopie, except the final part south of Wildcat - that was a dumb section over stupid rocks :)

I guess I found it "grueling" because my body wasn't quite conditioned for anything longer than a dayhike.
