I just bought a Precip about a month ago. So far its been great but, then again, I haven't been hiking with it nor have I been in any torrential downpours. We'll see how it works out for me out on the trail soon enough.

Marmot precip, I hope it is a good choice because I bought one last year. Have not had it a big rain yet, but with all the heavy rain we have had here in North AL, I need to put it on and take a walk down the road. I wish I could detach the hood. For me it was trying to balience the issues of cost, weight and reliable rain protection. Lets see what others think.

Loving mine, but at $50 didn't have a choice of colors...fire engine red!

Been wearing them since 2001. Not as Sturdy as GTX.. they seem to wear through after about 2 years of regular use. First around the collar/hood, then shoulders. Great dfeal if you can get it under $50. Otherwise........

I've heard it doesn't breathe well and this is especially noticed during warmer weather. I know of no other complaints and believe for the money that it is a quality jacket. Marmot products are genuinely of quality workmanship.

I've got one and it's a mighty fine jacket. Where it excels is on my regular, non-backpacking walks when it's drizzling and raining lightly.

Makes a pretty good wind jacket too.

Used a Precip since 2005 in AT hiking.
Doesn't really breathe well (but what effective rain gear does?).
Great for a wind breaker.
Great for a top layer in cold weather and/or in camp after and before hiking.

used mine for 2 years now. Still going strong. Never got wet with it even in a downpour for 2 hours.
