I'm aware of JacksRBetter and Nunatak. I'm very tempted to pull the trigger on a Long Sierra Snivler from JRB. But before I do, I thought I should check out other manufacturers. Who are they?

I know nothing about them except that they exist and the manufacturer makes quality gear (I have a poncho/tarp and had one of his ul bivy sacks).

Kabatic Gear (http://katabaticgear.com/home/)

enLIGHTened Equipment (http://enlightenedequipment.webs.com/)

The Stateless Society (http://www.titaniumgoat.com/Cyanocitta.html) (This is really a one man show, courtesy of Javan Dempsey. He does custom quilts if you get in touch with him but he also makes the Cyanocitta Bag which is a hybrid bag (imagine a bag without the hood and zippers and such, but not quite a quilt) and he sells them through Titanium Goat. I am currently awaiting my custom quilt from him and hoping it will be here by the end of next month...)

I have to recommend Javan Dempsey's The Stateless Society. He is an innovative yet meticulous producer of amazing custom quilts. He is also a nice guy. He doesn't have a website though and his business contacts all through recommendations.
If you want to contact him, please send me a PM and I will give you his contact info.

Golite, and they had a 40% discount code but I believe it expired end of March, the code was BSF10.

I second Hammockgear.com. I have used them for top quilts and underquilts. Very high quality. Every Quilt is made to order in the good ole USA. They stand behind their work in amazing ways. This is a cottage industry, and they husband and wife who run it are the best.

Find out more about them on hammockforums.com at:

Jacks-r-better also has an equally good reputation.

Bozeman Mountain Works (http://www.bozemanmountainworks.com/?do=showpage&id=14) makes a few synthetic quilts, and Therm-A-Rest (http://cascadedesigns.com/therm-a-rest/sleep-systems/insulation/category) actually makes a couple quilts too.

The Black Mamba Top Quilt from warbonnetoutdoors has really caught my eye. Don't suppose anyone here has experience with this quilt?

No expeience with the Black Mamba (http://www.warbonnetoutdoors.com/topquilt.php), but I do own a 3 season Burrow (http://www.hammockgear.com/cart/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=2_10&products_id=2&zenid=f0d973a55ab4f60157a3574ddc6b5de4) from Hammock Gear. I absolutely love my Burrow, but do bear in mind, I'm a hammocker and not a ground dweller. Stormcrow and his wife Thowren make all Hammock Gear products themselves in their home. They have an eye for detail, make an incredibly well made product and have customer service second to none. There's usually a wait for their gear, but they're a 2 (sometimes 3) person operation. However, the wait is well worth it, I assure you.

Nah, not specifically. Just figured you could probably read more about quilts there than here. Although, there has been a lot of great suggestions here too...

i just got the black mamba dla. i had report cards this past week so i haven't had a chance to use it yet. build quality looks awesome and i don't see any leaks. i'm excited to take it out soon.

the fabric was a softer feel (to me) than the fabric from hammockgear.com on my crowsnest.

Thanks. I just got email back from them. The website pictures looked like sew-through construction. Had my reading skills been better I would've noted that they specifically say "baffled". They nicely informed me that it is indeed baffled :)

I was also wondering about those straps down by the footbox and they told me that they aren't "straps" - they are ribbons specifically for snugging the quilt up more around the legs.

I am wondering a tad about whether or not pad straps are a good idea. My current "quilt" is an open down mummy bag and it does walk off my pad at night from my turning (I'm a side sleeper). JackRBetter's Sierra Sniveller has a number of pad straps on it.

As an aside, the main reason I'm leaning towards the Black Mamba is that it doesn't have a head hole (sure looks like a cold-spot to me) and the footbox is fixed.

I'm sooooo close to spending my money - I'm like a little kid :)

Take a look here at 2:30 the quilt is a 3 season mamba and I show you how to snug up the neck area and how it works on a pad. Not sure it will work if you are a sid sleeper but you could ask Brando about making the quilt wider.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fhkYhlZ1LCg

And yes the ribbon is used to extend the foot box area another foot longer for colder temps.

... that would be "side sleeper" and ask "Brandon"...

Thanks - good video. And that gives me a better mental image of the Black Mamba. I'm 6'1", so I'll be ordering the long/wide. I think the extra 7" in width will work out. My mummy bag that I use as a quilt is 48" wide and It drapes over my carcass just fine. 55" should be perfect.

I don't intentionally snow camp, but I am very picky about pads. I think the typical inflatable is a curse upon mankind. Maybe if try I a down exped I'll think differently. I use CCF exclusively for R-value, pressure points, and reliability. I currently use 2 Z-lites (1 small, 1 regular) when it is cold. They're pretty stable together.

I done do'd it. I bought the long/wide Black Mamba. Much thanks to all of you for helping me stimulate the American economy. Your input helped me make an informed purchase, which means it is less likely this quilt will end up in the "gear closet".

Looking forward to many comfy nights on the trail this year!
