Hike from Western NC to ?

I will be spending my entire summer in Bryson City, NC which is near Nantahala Gorge and Cherokee. What section should I hike if I want 2-3 days? View are a very big plus.

This might be off topic but feel free to give any other suggestions on hikes around that area.

Final question, I recently bought a REI camp dome 2 tent, should I buy a compression sack for it, or is the bag it came in with the two straps enough?
