I have a Hennessy Expedition Hammock that I love... except for the standard A-Sym tarp that it came with. It's fine if I have it set up perfectly and don't shift a lot in my sleep, but that seldom seems to happen when it's storming and I actually need it.

I want to upgrade my tarp and I am really looking at MacCat. My question is what size would be comfortable? I want it to be forgiving, but not obnoxiously big.

And of course, if you know of another, slightly larger tarp that fits the hennessy well, I am open to new suggestions.

Look at the Ogee tarp. Great coverage with lots of options for set up.

I love my MacCat Deluxe with the Hennessy & Light Hiker. The stock tarp works for keeping you covered in the hammock. It doesn't help at all if you want to get out and eat or just chill out during a storm. The Deluxe provides enough room to relax under cover w/o being too large.

To give you an idea of sizes, I set up my 3 tarps togeather to show their sizes next to each other and coverage. I have used all 3 on hammock camping trips.

I use a Warbonnet BB 1.7 double hammock for camping.

The largest is the Gear Guide tarp, heavy at 2 pounds about 12x12, but cheap, you can these for under $30 online with shipping

The camo is a Mosquito Hammock tarp 3x4 meters 1.2 pounds and $50

The dark tarp is a Big Mambjama (BMJ) from Warbonnet 132" x 120"; weights 15oz cost $110

I only take the Gear Guide on car camping trips because of the weight.

The other 2 tarps are close to each other in weight but the BMJ offers better coverage.

There are lots of tarps out there, different shapes, different materials and a wide range of prices. Cuben fiber tarps are getting popular as they are very light weight at about 7oz but very pricy at $200+

I recommend an umbrella Austin.
Yep, that should do the trick.

I have a Maccat Deluxe, and have had it out in several severe thunderstorms. It provided great rain protection over my HH Explorer UL.
