The southern terminus is Springer Mt.
The northern terminus is Mt Katahdin.

Most thruhikers start at Springer Mt.

Most thruhikers drive up forest service rd 42 near Ellijay where there is a parking lot 1 mile north of Springer. They then hike south on the trail to the summit of Springer.

Alternatively, some thruhikers drive to Amicalola State Park where there is an 8 mile hiking trail to the summit of Springer.
