View Full Version : With a week to go...

Well with exactly one week to go before I arrive at the Hiker Hostel in GA I've got most of the kinks figured out. Odd thing though is that the huge feeling of excitment that I should have isn't there. At least not like it was when I first starting planning this. I'm sure others have experienced this.

For me, I think I'm just burnt out from worrying about the gear and everything that has to be in place before I go. It'll probably hit me all at once when I lock my apartment for the last time, get in the car, and head down the road.

I did have a slight set back with the Tarptent Rainbow I ordered. Apparently a bunch were sent out with the wrong size pole. I happened to be one of the "lucky" ones who got this super-special pole. It ruined my plans to seam seal it this weekend; but after speaking with backcountrygear.com I was contacted by Henry Shires and should have my new pole Monday or Tuesday. Glad to see that good customer service still exists in a few places.

The first couple of days of my thru, I felt like I had made a huge mistake. This quickly went away, and I am glad I did it.

I almost forgot. I wanted to mention that I got a new camera. It wasn't that I didn't like my old camera (an older Sony DSC-P200), it was just that I was trying to reduce the number of wires to carry. I found that Kodak uses a standard size mini usb connector which is the same one found on my phone. That let me go from this:

To this:

The other wire you see is for my mp3 player which sadly uses micro usb and not mini usb. Still pretty happy though.

my advice is anticipate the negative feelings you'll have the first few days..and really beyond...no one has ever finished the trail and not contemplated getting off...it's fighting through that, seeing the glory that is the trail and continuing to put one foot in front of the other that will get you to katahdin!
