This time, I'm bringing my dog Ike (who runs an average of 10miles a day NOW and wants more; in Maine, too). I loved the long days myself, but it's not for everyone. It's all about enjoying YOUR OWN HIKE! hike on, thru-H perspectives!

It's hard to only hike the AT once. Quite a few people I met had done it 2+ times... now I understand why!

Hey, Mt. Squid, et.al!

Take me off the list of hikers, please. On 23 Apr, outside of Damascus, I had to take 3+ weeks off for a soft tissue injury in my right foot. On 16 May, I started again, in Damascus. I had hopes of finishing by 15 Sep.

On 18 May, on a sidewalk flat Trail section 200 meters north of Thomas Knob shelter, I hit a mud puddle and severely sprained my right ankle. The Park EMT personnel had to haul me out. Nothing broken, thank God. My hike is over for this year. My deep thanks to all the section and thru-hikers who helped me! I only caught one name: Shoto, AKA: Bear. I had hikers carry my pack back to a campsite, come by to check on me, help me pack up when the EMTs got there and pick over my dead carcass for the food I was carrying before I left! :) With my grateful permission, of course.

Now - I've decided this is NOT my only shot at being a thru-hiker. Is it too early to start a 2016 Thru-Hiker Registry forum? I'm going to try again on another leap year.

Thanks for everyone's prayers and support. I'm looking forward to lurking, posting and cheering on you hikers that make it and commiserating with you hikers who don't this year.

At present, we're in Duncannon, PA - staying at the Doyle tonight before moving on tomorrow morning. I spent today doing boot repair in a attempt to prep the boots to get to Harpers Ferry.

We are on schedule to reach Harpers Ferry August 14. At that point, I'll take a few days off-trail to spend at home in Northern Virginia and get new boots! I can't wait to get back to Virginia and hike through the Blue Ridge Mountains.
