I am planning on hiking Georgia to NC in late October. What tempature range should I look for in a bag? I am a cold sleeper so would rather be too warm, than cold.

The weather in Oct. in GA is nearly perfect for hiking in my opinion. It will get cool at night, and could dip into the 30's, but it usually is around the 40's I think. You should plan on a bag with a 20's rating if you are a cold sleeper. You could also think about a silk liner if you want to get a bag with a higher rating.

Hope you enjoy the hike. I love the AT in Oct.

Thanks, great info., was thinking 15 or 20 would be the number. Don't like to carry "just in case" items so I will leave the liner at home. Love the fall, and looking to the cool temps.

Remember most bag ratings take into account that you're wearing a baselayer and a cap.

Since the poster said he slept cold the 20 makes sense.

I would drive down there with a 30 and 40 in my car and make a game-day decision. But I carry a nice down parka for camp and can supplement.
