The BFT was my stomping grounds for well over a decade (along with West Rim Trail/Pine Creek/PA GrandCanyon & Susquehanock Trails). that drive will set you back at least 4.5 hours to Slate Run Village (Southern Section BFT Trailhead) If you are going further north to Germania or Black Forest Village it will add probably another 30 minutes.

And don't forget that "ever-frustrating never-ending bridge work" over the Susquhanna at Mifflinville on I-80 that stops traffic to a crawl for 3 miles (or worse), sucking up an additional hour.

From Port Clinton south is the schuykill river that has trout, smallmouth and other fish in it,and the little schuykill has trout. And MWeinstone is correct about Duncannon and the susky.Very good smallmouth fishing. But i dont know if theres camping next to either along the trail?

The trail crosses the Lehigh river there at the gap and i'm sure there are trout and smallies in it.Plus there is a shelter a short walk south of the gap.

What size radius are you talking about? There are many choices of fishing spots and trails in and around Philly, but the wider your radius of acceptable areas, the more choices there are... :-?

There is a nice sand bar depending on river height right down (1-2 miles) from the trail-head at the Delaware water gap. As of matter of fact you can see it as you are climbing MT. Minsi.

Next time, if it is within your range, consider the Mid State Trail in the area around Poe Paddy State Park. If you are a fly fisherman, you won't find better trout fishing in the state than Penns Creek near Poe Paddy. Also, if you are headed north from there, the MST also runs near White Deer Creek in Union County, another nice trout stream.
