LW just loves to watch the cattle graze.

By the way neighbor dave, if you own an AT guidebook of any kind you could add all the ascents yourself. :D

I don't know where I originally got these, but here's some stats on the trail:

There are 250 mountains to be climbed from GA to ME.
The total elevation gain is 471,151 feet, an average of 3000 feet a day. That’s like climbing Mt. Everest 16 times in a row…. from sea level.

Somewhere I read the statistic that there is almost 100 miles of vertical climb on the AT. It's the equivalent of hiking from sealevel to the top of Everest 15 or 16 times.

On the other hand, that means there is also 100 miles of descent, which can be harder on the knees.

Lone Wolf-"Don't know, don't care. I'm more concerned with BUFFET locations."You don't look like a parrothead, Wolf, but to find Jimmy Buffett locations, check out his tour schedule here. (http://margaritaville.com/tour/) :)

If I remember correctly from a TOPO! series I used in SNP, there was almost 25,000 ft of climb in 103 miles, but a net loss of a few hundred feet, end to end. This just may be a statistic you don't want to know.

Net loss... that sounds just like that forest ranger out near Boulder, CO, that posts here. Forget his name, but he told some dude here about a hike with a net gain of 'only' 300 or so feet. I don't think the recipient understood the sandbaggedness (new word) of what he said. Gee, only 600,000,000 vertical feet up and 599,999,700 down nets you a 300ft gain...:p

Sleepy the Arab-"This sentence makes me giggle. Clown farts."LOL! Gee, I just thought LW had missed a comma and had paid me a compliment when he said: "You're a clown Fhart", but now I'm not so sure.. :D
