Weather near Springer and Smokies

I'm leaving Springer on May 1st - anticipate arriving Damascus early June. What are weather conditions? Are there temps below 30? Are thermal underware/hat/gloves recommended?

Expect lows no lower then 40s and that would only be in GSM. Rest of wou trip will most liky be 50s lows and 80s high. No need for cold weather gear beyond a hat mid weight fleese or the equivilent. You may even find it hot at times.

Prepare for the coldest weather you can reasonably expect to encounter.

I left on my thru 5/1 and during the first week I had some nites in the 20s...as a cold sleeper I just about froze in my 20 degree bag. There were even snow flurries one day in the GSMNP (nothing stuck).

And I also had days in the 80s during this time.
