I've been lurking on this forum for a while now, and I recently realized that this forum, as a collective entity, does not do precise directions very well. Are there any books you'd recomend on resuply points, towns, maps, finances, and anything else important that's also difficult to boil down to an epigram.

As far as planning goes, I'm more Kerouac than Columbus. I would probably be fine with, literally, throwing a loaf of bread and a pound of tea in a bag and starting for Maine. My family thinks I might be nuts, but the joke is on them because I know I am.

The ALDHA AT Companion is chock-full of good logistical info, and is available online and well worth the eight bucks. For free, many of the articles right here on WB are useful and insightful. Among them:

-Baltimore Jack Tarlin's resupply guide (caution: large PDF):
http://www.whiteblaze.net/forum/articles/resupplybook.pdf

-The Perfect Maildrop and other resupply advice:

-Pretty much anything else on the menu bar on the left side of this page:

Oh, I was once 17 too!

Ditto Jersey Tim's info. Lots of rather precise info in those links!

Enjoy hiking!

Atleast bring some peanut butter for the bread man! LOL

If your looking for logistics get the AT Data Book. Can be picked up for $5 dollars.

All the other suggestions are good ones as well.

Spend a few hours cross-referencing, updating, and checking Jack's resupply article with an updated guidebook and you'll have all you need with regards to resupply.

The thing I found most useful about Jack's article were his editorial comments on the various options.
