Lone Wolf doesn't want to be a trail legend, but folks seem to want to make it happen against his will.

How about you?

Aw hell ...I'll take a chance:

All those in favor of Lone Wolf for the honorary title of "TRAIL LEGEND" raise your hands ....:clap

No. I'm just a big mouth jerk. Thank you.

Unlike some, he's not even a legend in his own mind so why should he be in ours. Besides, a legend can have a positive or negative conotation. Where would he fit in? :D

Nah ...it's gotta be the Trail Legend thing.

There are no honorary titles for the one you mentioned.

Oh, let me add that it requires greater than 50% to award the title. If the other three answers combined are greater than 50%, he don't get the title :p

Make A-Train a legend. He seems jealous.

Why make him a legend? I am in favor of giving people the title of 'legend', but that is reserved for people whose story precedes them. Prior to my involvement in the hiking community, I had heard of Shaffer, Gatewood, and Irwin. Their achievements are known beyond the hiking community (and I'm sure there are others!) and spoken of with a reverence and awe. I hope to meet L Wolf on my upcoming thru hike. I could only hope to come close to the achievements I have heard of (16,000 trail miles?, friend to the trail, diligent trail advocate to name but a few). Now that I have a vague idea of who he is, I, personally, am in favor of legendary status, but until his story permeates the outside world, I fear he may only be legendary to those who truly know him.

It's your poll, but don't you think 1 & 2 could be combined?

Not that the poll is leaning in any particular direction:rolleyes: Nevertheless, even though LW's self description is probably accurate, he should be admitted into the AT Hall of Fame and made to give a speech before many.

He deserves it all the way...even with all his one liners that crack me up!
Now LW, tell me of your encounter with a 2003 HIKER, and your desire to be SAVED???

I'll have to wait and see how he does on the PCT! Blue blazin' has no special status anywhere else.

But I still say yeas, what the heck!:D

Guess what, it's neither. This can't be allowed. Let the dead people in Chicago cast the deciding votes.

Nothing against LW as most of what he says is spot on, but I've always wondered why so many people on this site feel the need to kiss his ass. Reminds me of the Seinfeld episode where George had a case of "non sexual man love" for Elaines boyfriend.

See Rock? You're upsetting the commoners with the stupid poll. Max wants HIS patch kissed now. :)

In 03 I was anywhere between a few days to a week behind Lone Wolf for much of the hike. This meant I read each of his journal entries from beginning to end each day. They became a high light of my day. I met Lone Wolf for the first time when he came off Kahtadin and I and my hiking partners had just hiked to the base. Trail legend? Not just yes but hell yes.

Lone Wolf
01-26-2005, 14:48
We are different Lone Wolves. I didn't thru-hike in 03. He is welcome to the title of LEGEND. :)

dontstop, You refer to RICK the lone wolf. I'm amazed at your post. You are the first person I have ever heard of that even remotely liked that ass clown.

Wookie, "yawn" ? hahahaa I hit bullseye brother and you know it !

max patch, ---"Nothing against LW as most of what he says is spot on, but I've always wondered why so many people on this site feel the need to kiss his ass." ... bwahahahaahaaaaa HILARIOUS stuff. Anybody that is willing to ask that on here deserves an applause :clap . No slap to the face of Wolfie either. I've both praised and "unpraised" him for things he thinks and says. I've come to the conclusion that he doesn't really mean half of what he says. Either he is drunk, just trying to stirrrrrrr the pot, or saying something to be funny. Which he nornmally succeeds at. Half the time I wanna buy the man a beer and at other times I wanna verbally confront him. In the end .... I think something happens to people that hike alot.

Take a look at the "big A,.T. mile guys" for instance..... Seiko, Wolfy, Baltimore Jack, Weathercarrot, "Wingfruit"... They have distinct personality's to say the least. Watch out Lion King...this may happen to you as well !!! ;)

Seems to me a legend is created by the people around or associated with the person. They talk about the person and relate tales about the person to others often, which are then passed on to others.....and so on......hence the legend starts. Seems Lone Wolf is well on his way to having legend status from the looks of this thread.
