Got my first GPS, fooling around with it now. Here's my question:

I'm using the GPS in conjunction with paper maps. Certain points on these maps are marked with a co-ordinate in a format like "N 31.5248 W 108.3061".

My problem is that the GPS (Garmin Etrex Vista HCX) only allows you to enter a coordinate in a format like "N 35*13.013 W 111*38.427". (Imagine that the asterisk is a 'degrees' symbol.)

SO, how do I go about entering a coordinate from the map into my GPS?

Go to the main menu, select "setup," then "units," then change "position format" to match the one you're using. Pg 42 in your manual.

When I got my Garmin Colorado 300 a few years ago I was frustrated as he!! that Garmin's indstructions were WAY too sketchy.

I ended up getting a DVD from Cabela's on the Colorado series. It's put out by Bennett Marine and is very helpful in understanding all the operations of my GPS.See if Cabela's has one for your GPS.
