Don't know why the URL thing didn't work. Here is another try:

Uh huh! It's still early May! Above avg snow yr in that area, I think. Um, what did we expect in early may in GNP? I saw VERY SIMILIAR pics last yr around early-mid June!

I would hope that most SOBO CDTers did some pre-hike planning to grasp typical starting dates in/near Canada at GNP/WNP AND WHY THAT IS! I can't see how a SOBOer on the AT, PCT, or CDT would not inform themselves of snow conditions before embarking!

It's still early, like 5 weeks or more before SOBOers head out! Lots can still happen! Like quick melt, more snow, a meteor hitting the Earth, etc!

Snow Water Equivelent is really high this year. See ftp://ftp.wcc.nrcs.usda.gov/data/snow/update/mt.txt

One problem for SOBOs will be snowmelt. We hiked both nobo and sobo and the creeks that were high thigh in the spring were only ankle deep in the fall. We hiked in a year where the snow was about 125% of normal and there were two rivers we couldn't cross. The Bob will be interesting this year.

Also some of the campsites in Glacier may be closed to anyone hiking in June. If the outhouse is buried, the campsite will probably be closed. About a third were closed when we hiked through on our sobo hike - and that was before they closed the trail entirely due to a hungry bear. They will also require a bear canister if the bear poles are not useable.

So now we have to worry about meteors hitting the earth too? Man and I thought the grizzlies were going to be a problem. Do they sell anti-meteor spray at REI?

I think Bruce Willis endorses a brand? (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0120591/)
