Well, you already know my plans for June, but here we go:

June: Erwin to Damascus (this is definite and will complete the AT from Springer to Lehigh Gap in PA thus far)

Sept: Hopefully, first half of Tahoe Rim Trail (postponed from Sept of 2010)

Oct or Nov: North from Lehigh Gap for two weeks

I usually try to do one or two trips on the AT, aiming to complete it before I retire, and another trip "someplace else". There are just so many great places to see, I have a tough time, and no desire to just ignoring everything but the AT. :-)

Winding Stair Gap to Fontana Dam the 3rd week of May with my daughter, Sunshine, continuing from where we left off last year.

While I love hiking with my daughter, I'm definitely covering less ground on my annual section hike, to the point where I'm not going to meet my 40-year target to cover the entire AT! Oh well. Guess I'll have to change my signature.

Doing Fontana to the NOC with the Scout Troop this year - first week of Aug - southbound for a change. Better way to get a good place to stay overnight the last night before coming back to FL the next day, plus we can legally travel back in 1 day, instead of having to break it up into two days.

Part of SNP middle of July with my two boys and possible friend and her son.

However, it looks like she might back out. If that happens, I think I want to spend more time and do the entire park. I think the boys (12/14) would get a kick out of saying they backpacked over 100 miles (rather than the 50 planned). If she doesn't go, I have 9 days to hike...

The wife and I will only have time for a shorter one this year. Crawford Notch to Pinkham Notch, or the other way around, is about all we'll get to do on the AT.

I've already done an end to end of the C+O Canal and hope to get the Great Alleghey Passage done this year too.

I completed the July hike (Arden Valley Rd to the 112/7 junction North of Kent), and had a great time.

The "???" looks like it will be the 4 state challenge (except I'll be doing it over a weekend instead of a 24 hour period) in November unless the weather does not cooperate. If that happens it'll just be something local here in VA.

Started at Springer last year and did a number of sections NOBO last year and this year. At 56 years old - this is really fun ! Next month - I'll do a section finishing at Roan Mountain. Done about 375 miles so far. Even though I have a good bit of outdoor experience - seems like it has taken me this far to really figure out what to do and what I need and what is not really necessary. At this point, I (almost) consider myself an ultra-lighter. The light pack really makes the hiking enjoyable. The best miles have been when my son could join me. Hope to do Roan Mountain to Damascus later this year (if everything falls into place). Good luck to all.

Hoping to cover my last section south of Pinkham Notch -- Fontana Dam to Max Patch Road -- the first week of October if I can get shelter reservations. It's looking as if I won't be able to take off to hike in 2012 due to a variety of family obligations, which will put my completion year out to 2015 or so. Someday I'll be able to take some time to backpack other long-distance trails!

Went from I-40 to Hot Springs in 2008, Hot Springs to Erwin in 2009, Unico Gap to Standing Indian 2010, Erwin to US 19 in 2010, New Found Gap to I-40, 2010, Amacollia Falls to Neals Gap, 2011, ( side trip to I 40 to Hot Springs for a friend in 2011) US 19 - Damscus VA in 2011. Just need to finish from Standing Indian to New Found Gap and will be done with everything in GA, NC and Tenn. Hopefully will be doing from Standing Indian to Fontana this fall. Start in Damascus July 1st 2012 if the Rapture has not happened and we still have some semblance of the United States present. I figure at my pace, I should completed the AT in 20 years. If I had my choice, I would be hiking RIGHT NOW.

Did most of this section a week ago. Actually started in Harpers Ferry and hiked to Pen-Mar County Park. I of course walked down to the MD/PA border so I could at least say I bagged MD. Out of all of the sections I have done so far that was the easiest terrain. Tons of people out between Harpers Ferry and Annapolis Rocks that weekend too. Neat section though.

Covered Winding Stair Gap to Fontana Dam (http://trailjournals.com/entry.cfm?id=364109) with my daughter back in May. I went back in early October to bag Fontana Dam to Max Patch Road (http://trailjournals.com/entry.cfm?id=364142) under blue skies, my last section south of Pinkham Notch in New Hampshire. Of course, my wife has now informed me that I cannot backpack again until I take her to Paris for our long-deferred 25th wedding anniversary present to each other, so it looks like I won't get to Maine until 2013, and finish up in Fall 2015.

Did the next section from Deep Gap to NOC back in October. We got snowed on the Wednesday night, our first night out and walked in snow for two days until it warmed up in to the 60's by saturday with cloudless skies. Our best experience on the AT with the two weather extremes and the adventure of the snow. Can't wait to go back for next section. See my post on the Black Creek Trail.

My wife and I are leaving early April and will do half the trail this year (Springer to Harpers Ferry) and then finish the second half next year. We just wanted a more leisurely pace so we can enjoy the trail more fully. This way we'll also have the option to continue on if we wish.
