So much for thinking everyone's comments on whiteblaze are protected by an implicit copyright-- at least so far as real press is concerned.

Copyright? This is a public forum.
Never write anything on an e-list that you wouldn't allow your mother to read.

I think posting here is analagous to writing a letter to the editor, or calling a radio talk show, or speaking in a town square. You're basically speaking in public.
I'm not a copyright lawyer, but I can't see why comments in a public forum such as WB can't be quoted and reproduced in the media or anywhere else. Or, monitored by the police, the IRS, or anybody with a computer.

I ran into Saved on a section hike in NC in late September last year. He said he'd been living on the trail for about 1 1/2 years, but was thinking of going to Florida b/c that's where the Lord was calling him. He mentioned being low on funds and needing to resupply in the next town b/c he didn't have enough to eat.

Hmmm ... was he supposed to have been around Central Virginia in early July?
Just thinking back to someone I met at the Harpers Creek Shelter after coming over the Three Peaks. :-?
