View Full Version : looking for AT section maps for employer and family
My employer wants to put maps up in the office and move a pin as I NOBO. Does anyone happen to have a map of the southern half? What is the best one for this idea? They don't need much detail.
Maybe this one: http://www.nps.gov/appa/planyourvisit/brochures.htm - you can order a preprinted one from ATC, search on "strip map"
Or one could order the large yellow poster https://www.atctrailstore.org/catalog/iteminfo.cfm?itemid=222&compid=1

The strip map is perfect.
The strip map is perfect.
Thanks I wondered if it would be too small. Wouln't they need to place one pin per week considering the pace of hiking?
Have them order an Official Strip Map (http://www.theoutfitteratharpersferry.com/servlet/the-5838/Appalachian-Trail-Poster-Strip/Detail) from the Outfitter in Harpers Ferry.
They can mark it using 3M Sticky Flag Arrows every day to show your progress without damaging it.

$12.95 to ship a $3.95 item. There's got to be a better way!

You can download a free PDF of the strip map from the National Park Service, and enlarge it if you wish.

ATC's The Ultimate Trail Store has copies already printed in stock available for immediate shipment to your door at a modest price.
Could you let us know your cost per map and post an image of your finished product?

Not to beat this subject to death, but...this large wall map ki0eh posted is a great keep sake. I'm glad to see them available from the ATC at that price. They show the trail in a better perspective to the rest of the Eastern U.S.
A lot of hostels use them for hikers to pinpoint their home places. I couldn't find one until I got to Monson on my first thru, and sent it home to myself. Now I have at least four of them for me and family.
Also the strip map already in PDF is available here:

I used the first link and was able to tell my printer to "tile print" the map in
full size. A bit of careful snipping on the cutting board and some 2" wide
packing tape, and I now have a colorful 11" x 51" wall strip map.
I've no idea why I did this, except that I could.
You can print it in sections and tape it together.
