Did the Approach Trail April 1, started from Springer April 2. I have been averaging about 15 miles/day. Took a couple of zeroes to go to Trail Days from Pearisburg. So far I have stayed at a motel twice, hostel (The Place at Damascus) once and slept in a shelter twice, rental car once. I have treated water twice, hung my food never.
Sent my cold weather gear home from Damascus against conventional wisdom. Temps got down in the twenties a couple of nights later on Mount Rogers (live and learn). My pack is now less than 25 lbs with 100 five days of food and a quart of water.
Beautiful scenery now that it has greened up. Lotsa wildfowers. Very few animals/birds.
I am now at Troutville, VA, about mile 719, only 1,460 to go.
