to ultralight - okay, maybe just baby steps.
Bought my first new pack in 20 years. Went from 5 lb external frame Jansport to an REI Flash 50 at 2lb 10oz for $119 (with my member's 20% off coupon). For $50 I got a new REI sleeping pad at 1lb 2oz (down from 1lb 11.5oz). Found out my sleeping bag at 2lb 6oz is pretty darn light so I stuck with that. Add this to my BA flycreek tent (1lb 14 oz) I got about 6 weeks ago and that puts my base weight at 8lbs. :D
I also decided to switch to an esbit stove which weighs 3.25oz (fuel 0.5oz per tab) instead of my whisperlite which is 9.5oz without fuel/fuel bottle.
eating cold foods more and just plan on boiling water for dehydrated foods. Picked up some MH meals to try until I have time to dehydrate my own. I might stick w/ MH for this season and then start dehydrating this winter since I don't hike in winter (yet).
I can't wait to see how light my pack is this weekend!:banana
