SOBO - Katahdin Stream Campground - walk ups in July?

I am heading SOBO in July but I do not know the exact date. I have a lot of personal loose ends to tie up
before I can depart for Maine so my dates are ever changing but I intend to be at Baxter in mid-July sometime.

Since I don't know the date I will be there I am contemplating just showing up and hoping for a spot.

What's the likelihood of there being open spots in mid-July?

Also, if I do show up and there are no available spots what would you suggest as a backup plan?

You could try a walk up. If its a weekend, I wouldn't. Better mid week I'd think. I'll have to say on July 1 there were several SOBO guys who had no reservations and shared spots with other SOBO hikers in their sites.
