Can anyone shed any insight on this?

Was on the AT just south of Sky Meadows boundary in VA.

I took that same photo last year but, I have no idea about the history of it. Of the 1,519 miles of the AT I have covered so far I have come across many unexplained memorials.

I know several have spread ashes etc of loved ones on the AT. Could be one of those

No ideas? I have searched every way I can think of on the internet and have not found anything. Boggles my mind that something can't be found on the internet :-?

I can't help you with this one. I must have passed 15-20 simillar memorials on the AT. A lot of folks love the AT so much and that's where they want to go when they pass away.
