Last night I used a mixture of silicone thinned out with odorless mineral spirits to paint lines on my tent floor (Double Rainbow Tarptent) to keep my Big Agnes sleeping pad from sliding around at night. I am only partially happy with the result. Wondering, should I just use some more but, this time a little thicker? Has anyone ever just used straight silicone on a Tarptent floor with any success or does it end up being too thick?

Just spoke to Henry Shires on the phone about my Tarptent and he informed me it could be done either way. He also did something for me that was totally unexpected. You just don't get customer service like he offers in this day and age. Thanks so much to Henry.

when the silicone starts shedding off, youll be so so sorry. it never lasts. nor does it prevent slippage long. pad slip is only prevented by not careing.

Thanks for the comment. I will take that into consideration and hope that it lasts me the 660 miles that I have left to go this year.

Yes I have used straight silicone on my hs tarptent.....I put dots with some height and that stopped the sliding

If you put thin lines (I use dots...) of pure silicone (labelled 100% silicone, not standard bathroom silicone) it will not peel of.
It works a lot better if you also stripe the bottom of your mat.

Or you can get a section of the thinlite pads sold on the Gossamergear site. A small piece placed under your sleeping mat will prevent slippage since they are very sticky. Also serves as multi-use. :)
I use clear 100% silicon and apply strips on my sleep pad...stops the slip

I use strips on the floor of my Lunar Solo. It works great and they haven't come off.

What kind of pads are doing all this slipping?
I have used a Big Agnes Insulated Air Core and a Neo for years. I am a flopper of a sleeper but never found the pad moving around to be an issue.

ChinMusic...have an older prolite 3 and had severe slippage on the floor of my previously owned Contrail. The Gossamer Gear thinlite under the prolite stopped the slippage. :)

I use the Big Agnes pad. I think what happens is that when I am flopping around in my sleep I get right on the side edge and it shoots out from under me. I do the same thing at home with the mattress cover, it is always coming off on my side. And no, I'm not a large person.
