I just finished making a 4" fixed blade knife I want to carryon my upcoming sobo thru hike....the blade is wicked sharp and I am in need of a sheath that will protect me from said blade when not in use.....I have always used a folding knife before....I have tried a leather sheath I have and the knife cut right through it.....any ideas where I might find a suitable sheath......I have googled sheaths, but most i found were leather or heavy.......thanks in advance

Try making one out of Kydex. You can get supplies here (http://www.knifekits.com/vcom/index.php?cPath=41).

try making one out of bone. That's what the Laplanders do. It makes a great sheath.

This is a good suggestion. I've read of folks using plastic (ie: gallon-sized milk, or soap detergent jugs) with some success to form their own on-the-cheap sheaths. Google will reveal a number of hints and how-to's.

A leather sheath needs to be specific to each knife. The cutting edge should slide between two tightly bound pieces of leather without cutting either one, if the sheath is made right.
