Me and the kids struck out for a quick little day hike last weekend at Sipsey Wilderness in AL. It was nice to get away and to go someplace cool, and even more so since my kids were with me.

Anyway, we planned to "wade" across the Sipsey River and then enjoy a lunch at a waterfall...we ended up skipping across the river on some rocks and having lunch at a water drip... http://www.backpacker.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/laugh.gif

Really though, the water was pretty dried up, but not completely gone, but in the heat we hiked in it really was no surprise. We still had a good time though.

I posted some pics and a video of some of the hike on my blog if anyone is interested:

Thanks for the photos! Can you coment on the general conditions of the Sipsey? I heard some of the tornados went thru the area, and some have suggested (not reported) it was pretty torn up with a lot of blowdowns. I have been wanting to get up there. Any coments are welcome...

On the drive to Sipsey I came through a section on HWY 72 that had some damage, but that was it. This areas was still a good 30 minutes drive from the Sipsey TH. This hike is a relatively short hike but I saw nothing that made me think of tornadoes. A few downed trees, but nothing fresh, looked more like typical blow downs. Temps were hot and the river was way down...
