I think car - bear collisions are #3 behind deer and moose, which stands to reason because bears are also third in population density of large animals. As for the bear being struck and thrown into a second vehicle, that is more rare, but perhaps more likely because they are lower the ground that moose and deer. Struck bears don't normally go through windshields like moose and deer, for this reason, but this is a notable exception.

Mods may want to consolidate them.

When I read the title of this post I thought it was about relatives screwing up your plans for a hike.

Anyway, a bear flying through my windshield certainly would ruin the plan for the day!

!

They are either happy to come along or happy to be rid of me, depending.

It's freakish and tragic at the same time!

Here in Thailand, it's has happened with elephants.
We had one false charge our pickup 2 years ago.

Also, I hit a moose with my van in Maine about 15 years ago.
Very scary stuff.
Neither the moose nor the elephant seemed even the slightest frightened of us.
It was more like they saw us as a threat to their territory.
