Next week I fly to Myrtle Beach, SC; I will drive a car back to MI. I have to be back in MI by 1200 6/21/11.

How many days should be allotted for the Blue Ridge Parkway on the return trip? Any?

Does anyone know the average drive time to complete the near 500 miles? 15 hrs?

Any suggestions for the, "not to be missed", along the way, are greatly appreciated.

How much time(hrs., days), does it take, in areas such as, Clingmans' Dome, the Cherokee area, The Natural Bridge area, Skyline Drive and SNP area, side trip to Damascus to hike parts of the Creeper Trail and/or AT, etc., to get a good sample of the wonders, in just that 4-5 days timeframe.

To clarify the above, say I'm in Cherokee. I want to drive to Clingmans Dome, do the hike to the platform, take pics, etc. Then I drive back to Cherokee.
How much time would this journey take? The same for The Natural Bridge area? etc.

Also, if anyone needs a ride, in that timeframe, send a PM, to explore those possibilities.

Thanks in advance for any thoughts, or slams, you http://hikinghq.net/forum/images/smilies2/adore.gif have to offer.

Google Maps estimates the drive time from Myrtle Beach to Ann Arbor (is there anyplace else worth visiting in Mitten Land?) at about 13 hours. I typically drive a bit faster, but rest stops along the way would likely bring my total travel time to 14-15 hours.

As for your other questions, I'm not sure anyone can reasonably answer them. If I were you, I'd probably allocate about a day to do any one activity, driving to the next activity that evening. So, a day to do Clingmans, a day to drive part of the Blue Ridge Parkway, a day to enjoy Damascus, etc.

Wife and I did part of the Blue Ridge Parkway two summers ago. We considered it well worth it. Speed limit is about 45 the whole way, and there are lots of things to stop and see or do. You could always hop on and off it as you wished and had time for.

It depends greatly on the summer tourist traffic, but I'd say under an hour to drive up, and hour there, and under an hour to drive back, so less than 3 hours. But if tourists see bears, traffic will come to a standstill for a while.

It's great to travel with no real time constraints, so relax and enjoy!

What's in Ann Arbor?:DI lived in Ann Arbor from 1979-2011, so just a bit of bias. ;)

Now I live in Minneapolis where they have this state university that displays a weird Block 'M'.

The Blue Ridge Parkway is a worthwhile drive, but expect it to take a couple of days. We like to stop at the overlooks, take the side trails, and stop at the little wayside restaurants.

Of course, the BRP is not really "on the way" to Michigan, but I expect you know that already.

I drove up to Ann Arbor for three years ('02-'05). Oldest daughter went to law school there. We (the family) really enjoyed Ann Arbor.

And yes, they do have some weird "M" thing going on up north! :D
