I'm resuming my CDT thru near Steamboat heading north. Anyone been out there and have a snow report? I'm wondering whether to take my ice axe and/or snowshoes and/or microspikes.

Steamboat was 300% of normal last winter which was more than the rest of Colorado got. I saw the Zirkel area from a distance about 10 days ago and it was 90% white. I'd take everything.

The Old Battle Snotel station is in Wyoming just north of the Zirkel and the trail goes right by it. It is at elevation 9,920 but the hike to get there goes up to 11,800 ' in Colorado so you need to add to the numbers. Snow depth there was 40" this morning. Gutsy and I are trying to decide what to do about our CDT section hike. We would like to do the Anaconda Pintlers SOBO but hear it may not be passable due to deep snow. Now we're looking at Colorado, hiking south from Steamboat Springs area. But comments in this thread have me wondering.

I'm sure this post is a little late for Odometer, but I can say that a few weeks ago there was no snow in the Anaconda Pintlers. On July 5 there was still 10 feet, no exaggeration, at
Buffalo Pass east of Steamboat, but I'd wager it's all gone by now.
