MEC (the REI of Canada) runs a gear swap (http://www.mec.ca/Apps/outdoorGearSwap/gearswap_main.jsp?FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=1408474396 038596) on their website. I don't believe it's exclusive to Canadians but that's mostly who frequents it from what I've seen.

your local craigslist has a lot of gear I'm sure. I've found a lot of quality gear there myself.

Thrift stores and 2nd hand places are among my favorites. Mainly for clothing, but sometimes other gems are found there.

Outdoor Gear Exchange has a store in Burlington VT and a webstite. The store has lots of used gear not sure if it is available on the web or not, might be worth a try.
