Help! I'm getting drained by these little hoovering vampires and was wondering what's a good all-natural mosquito repellant? Not into the chemically carcinogenic versions but would like something that works good! Any suggestions????

I am allergic to DEET so all natural is the only way to go for me. I use Repel Brand Lemon Eucalyptus repellent. It is all natural and works the best out of all the natural repellents I have ever used.

Just be forewarned... the fumes are very strong when initially applied. If you spray around your neck or head, be prepared to get light headed from them until you get used to it (took about 3 or 4 times of using it for me).

The Seminole Indians in Florida used to smoke fish oil and use that... tried it once and it worked decent... not gonna make you any friends with the smell though.

Interesting... smoke as like a cigarette or smoke on a campfire?

Researchers at UNC recently isolated something called undecanone, which is a chemical produced by tomato plants to ward off insects. I got a free sample a while back of a product called BioUD (I'll link it below) and it worked as well as DEET vs. mosquitoes for me.

smoke as in a campfire, they collected it as a byproduct as they cooked.

I eat a lot of garlic and take garlic supplements and have notbeen bitten in 4-5 years- still have to deal with them in my face and eyes... peppermint oil has been helpful in keeping them away from face....

I bet tomato vines chopped and soaked in water( then the water sprayed on clothes and skin would work) I use that concoction as a bug spray on plants....

Skeeter Ban by odornix, all natural for skeeters, flies, yellow flies, deer flies, deer ticks. Works pretty well just have to apply it more often than deet.

Thiamine(B1) helps alter your body chemistry, keeps mosquitoes away.

I tried bounty dryer sheets tucked under my hat on the advise from a friend. They work! plus they repell mice from your food too.

Nutrapel or Repel's Lemon Ecalyptus work best, FOE ME, as natural ingredient insect repellants. This should go without saying, but do not get either in your eyes, mouth, etc.

My wife and I use Repel Brand Lemon Eucalyptus repellent with pretty good success.
Besides keeping the bugs away it does a fair job at covering up that hiker funk smell. So there you have it, a double use item. Bug repelent and hiker cologne all rolled into one.

Bring along some cone incese to burn in camp too.

That's to hide the other smell, keeps away trail runners...

This stuff has worked well for me.... http://www.cactusjuicetm.com/

All natural, doesn't sting the eyes, and it has a nice citrus smell/flavor to it.....
About the only problem I have had is finding the stuff....so I usually order a case or two at a time from the site.

Fern juice. Just take a handful of the tops and crush up in your hands, rub it on the exposed skin. Garlic & B-12 helps somewhat if taken for a month prior, but has no effect on hords. I carry a headnet during peak bug season that seems like the only surefire solution in extreme conditions.
