Trail Superstitions

Some people are superstitious in their everyday lives, some people are on the trail. Personally, I am not superstitious at all, but I find them fascinating.

I have heard of people dropping a larger stone in a circle of stones at the beginning of a long trip to "lighten the load" symbolically.

I'm wondering if anyone of you believe in superstitions that are specific to being out on the the trail?
